  • Designer Spotlight: Depeapa

A few months before I opened the shop I found a pull-out poster from an old issue of Frankie Magazine and put it up in my office. It was an illustration of a bearded sailor and i loved the style it was drawn in. It wasn't until later when i was racking my brain for designer's work to carry that I looked up above my computer screen and thought about tracking down the artist behind him. This is what lead me to Depeapa.

Based out of Granada, Spain, Depeapa is the work of Veronica de Arriba and is a collection of beautiful objects from illustrations, tote bags, accessories, tea towels and other housewares. Her style is eclectic and classic and she favours neutral tones with pops of colour.

Her images and marketing materials are all beautifully photographed by her boyfriend and give her line that extra bit of wonder. I could peruse her Instagram for hours.

We're a huge fan of her Terrestre necklaces which are composed in all natural stone and wood materials. They are very simple but add the perfect touch to any outfit.

We carry three styles in the Terrestre necklaces.

We also have a few of her adorable pocket mirrors with girl illustrations.

And a few totes and string backpacks in the famous bearded man, floral garden and geometric mountain.

  • Oktoberfest

As part of the International Village, we'll be celebrating with the Oktoberfest tomorrow! Sure, it's only the end of August, but what better time to celebrate the end of summer with beer, music and shopping! We'll be having a special sidewalk sale tomorrow from 12-5 and will have some new fall items hitting the racks.

I've always loved collecting vintage from different cultures, and anything German or European folksy is one of my absolute favourites. It's not uncommon for me to buy a pair of leiderhosen that would only fit a baby or an old dirndl just because. I love the care and time put into these special pieces and the whole decorative and traditional style amazes me.

For more information on the festival, go here: Oktoberfest in International Village

Check out some images from my first ever lookbook, inspired by Oktoberfest and featuring pieces from my vintage collection:

  • Loly in the Sky

We are so excited to announce a new line of shoes we are now carrying: Loly in the Sky. Designed and manufactured in Mexico City by talented shoe designer and all-around cutie, Lorena Vasquez, these flats add a little fun and wonder to your everyday wardrobe!

Inspired by all things lovely, feminine and quirky, the line of shoes are made from natural materials handpicked in Mexico and lovingly screen-printed with various cute designs. What I love most about the shoes is how they are light as a feather making them a perfect travel shoe- either for day-to-day or faraway journeys.

We picked four styles that we thought were perfect for fall and have a range of sizes available! I'm already planning all the cute fall outfits I'm going to wear with each of these pairs!

Abril, Erika, Carla and Fernanda. $42/pair

  • Be a Deer

When I was 15 I had a complete obsession with Audrey Hepburn. I has just gone on exchange to Paris and was starting to get into fashion and then my sister mentioned Breakfast at Tiffany's. I'll always remember how it first came up, she was talking about the cat in the movie and how Holly Golightly had never given it a proper name, just referred to it as Cat. Well being the feline freak I am I instantly knew I had to see the film and felt an instant bond to this Holly character. It wasn't until my Audrey obsession became more serious and I started reading about her life that I discovered her love of all types of animals. The story that always stuck out to me about Ms. Hepburn was her pet fawn, Ip.

In 1959 Audrey made a movie called Green Mansions where she played a "forest-dwelling girl". This nymph-like character she was supposed to be was always surrounded by nature and animals so the animal trainer on set had her take the film's little deer home with her so it would be comftorable around her. The result was the sweetest human-animal love affair and was lovingly captured by Audrey's close friend and photographer, Bob Willoughby.

I've always loved Audrey Hepburn for her effortless glamour, youthful spirit and, as these images prove, her gentle soul.
