• Betty and Veronica

If you hadn't already heard, the infamous comic book character, Mr Archie Andrews, will die in today's "Life with Archie" release. The series which focuses on the Riverdale gang as adults will come to an end with this surprising finish. The other versions of the characters focusing on their high school lives will continue, so no need to fear! I've always been more of a "Betty and Veronica" digest reader myself and so in honour of today's importance to Archie Comics history I've compiled a quick visual history of the two beauties that are Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge. Originally introduced in 1942, the first versions of the girls are quite different than what we're used to. Sometime in the 60's they chose a style for the comics that remains today, but the 40's and 50's saw a few different artists lending their style to the girl's look.

  • Sporting Season

This Sunday we'll be shooting our Summer Lookbook and couldn't be more excited! Our inspiration for the shoot comes from the sports of summer. Think croquet, badminton and lawn bowling. Who says you can't look cute and ladylike while taking part in a sport or two! Check out some of our vintage and more recent inspirations here! • HFW: Tropicana

We had a great time on Saturday at the Hamilton Fashion Week Gala runway show! Our models looked beautiful in their tropical inspired looks and we were honoured to open the show and set the tone for the first half.

Siobhan McAvoy did an amazing job opening the show in a 60's bold printed mini dress and statement earrings. The darling Delaney Stone looked awesome in a pair of 60's jungle-printed shorts, crop top and banana necklace/earrings. Natasha Stavnitzky was drop-dead gorgeous in an Esther Williams high-waisted bikini and vintage accessories. The adorable and always energetic Tess Garland looked like a bombshell in a retro one-piece swimsuit and pineapple earrings. Kate Sciamanna (that girl can strut!) killed it in an off-the-shoulder crop top, statement necklace and parrot-printed skirt. Closing the show was the amazing Victoria Stavnitzky, who had such an amazing runway presence, in an embroidered folk top and high-waisted denim shorts. Seriously love these ladies and they will always be honourary Girls on the Wing!

All in all it was a great night with a wonderful team and lots of friends around! It was so fun seeing the collections from our pals at Newolds, White Elephant, O's Clothes, the Eye of Faith and Hawk and Sparrow. Special thanks to the James North General Store boys for executing the event! And very very big thank you to my pal Noah McGillivray for making an awesome summer mix for the girls to walk to!

  • Fruity Lady

This summer we're wearing our heart...scrath that, our STOMACH on our sleeve in fruit-inspired styles! I've always loved Carmen Miranda, and all that she stands for. Known to most as the woman with the fruit on her head, Carmen Miranda was a talented singer/dancer/actress appearing in countless movies from the 30's-50's. I know her best from the movie "The Gang's All Here" where she rocks her signature style. On screen you can find her in elaborate costumes often with fruit or floral headpieces and turbans. Off screen she was known for her overwhelming collection of platform shoes. My kind of lady!

The fruity style is great because it encompasses everything we want from summer: fresh, fruity, bright and nostaglic- a fruit motif can never go out of style. I remember wearing dresses with watermelon prints as a kid and strawberry earrings- and now designers are experimenting with different fruit fabrics and inspirations. My favourite fruity collection has to be Mother of Pearl's SS14 show. This London-based duo teamed up with artist Mat Collishaw to create some amazing patterns- check out the juicy looks below!

  • Saltwater Sandals

We're excited to announce this year's shipment of Saltwater Sandals have arrived! These shoes are a summer staple and are perfect for their classic look and durability. I bought my first pair about 4 years ago and they are still kicking- and are my favourite spring/summer shoe. The sandals have been around since the 1940's and are a long-standing American tradition.

"Crafted with a Littleway stitched leather sole, extra-thick high grade leather upper and solid brass buckles, they offer an unmatched level of comfort that will last for many seasons. Salt Water's exclusive colour bonding process means the colour will not wear off like other sandals. All Salt Water sandals are designed to be worn in the water, and can be thrown in the washer. Just hang to dry and they will spring back to shape for a new adventure."

The best thing about the shoes is how they form to your foot as they get broken in and turn into such a comfortable shoe. My advice for buying is they should first fit fairly tight as they will stretch with wear. I also have lots of tricks to breaking them in quickly- including immersing them in water and walking around in them and gently stretching the straps with your hands. For more information on sizing and care, stop by the shop and ask away!

This year we are carrying the sandals in women's sizes 6-10 in red, navy, white and tan. $64 a pair.

  • Floral Folk

There's still a shiver in the air but with the recent reappearance of the sun, spring is the only thing on my mind! I long for the day when I can leave the house without a parka and snowboots. It's going to be here before we know it and we're starting to plan the store's spring season. We've got some exciting new product lines coming in, some stellar vintage and must-have accessories on their way. Today's spring fashion inspiration is all about folky florals.

Alberta Ferretti's spring 2014 collection was heavily influenced by various European folk cultures, specifically Hungarian floral embroidery. I've always had a love for traditional European clothing for it's intricate and decorative designs on simple, well-cut clothing. With Ferretti's latest collection, she brings this traditional folk style to a high-fashion level.

I love the way Ferretti mixes simple, feminine silhouettes with decorative embroidery and pattern. All the pieces are based in either black and white with pops of bright colours- most notably in vibrant pinks and reds, tangerine oranges, and a bold lavender. The looks feature cropped tops, tiered skirts, empire waists and full skirts. My favourite part of the collection is how she bridges the gap between so many European styles; long, flowy Grecian style dresses, hints of Parisian chic, traditional Hungarian details and Ferreti's native Italian romantic style.

    How to Get the Look:
