Fruity Lady
This summer we're wearing our heart...scrath that, our STOMACH on our sleeve in fruit-inspired styles! I've always loved Carmen Miranda, and all that she stands for. Known to most as the woman with the fruit on her head, Carmen Miranda was a talented singer/dancer/actress appearing in countless movies from the 30's-50's. I know her best from the movie "The Gang's All Here" where she rocks her signature style. On screen you can find her in elaborate costumes often with fruit or floral headpieces and turbans. Off screen she was known for her overwhelming collection of platform shoes. My kind of lady!
The fruity style is great because it encompasses everything we want from summer: fresh, fruity, bright and nostaglic- a fruit motif can never go out of style. I remember wearing dresses with watermelon prints as a kid and strawberry earrings- and now designers are experimenting with different fruit fabrics and inspirations. My favourite fruity collection has to be Mother of Pearl's SS14 show. This London-based duo teamed up with artist Mat Collishaw to create some amazing patterns- check out the juicy looks below!
